Increasing voter efficacy in Boston and beyond

% Voter Turnout Boston City Elections

Local elections are crucial

but many,
especially economically disadvantaged and immigrant residents
don’t understand the importance of engaging at the local level

Our goal: get more people to vote

We Do That in Three Main Ways

Speaker Events

Informal Q&A sessions with city candidates open to the public, live-streamed on our social media platforms—brought to the communities who need it most

Street Teams

Volunteer-led pop-up tables in high-traffic areas, community centers, and events with signs, QR codes for instant registration, and voter guides

Social Media Outreach

Find us on TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn, reaching out to the Boston community and collaborating with city partners to connect people to voting resources

Our mission

The Beacon Project empowers low efficacy communities to participate in local elections by making voter education more accessible, welcoming, and engaging. We aim to spark civic confidence and create spaces where all voices feel heard and valued. Our goal is not just to register voters, but to build lasting trust in the democratic process.

The Institute for Citizens and Scholars selected The Beacon Project for the inaugural Carnegie Young Leaders for Civic Preparedness fellowship, connecting it to $7,500 per team in project funding, stipends, mentorship, and access to a national network of peers and civic leaders to bring these programs to life.
